Police must back 20mph speed limit campaign

Councillor Ernie Butler and others are right to campaign for a 20mph speed limit but this should not only be for Brook Road but for all residential streets.

From published statistics, being struck by a vehicle at 20mph gives you a greater chance of survival than one at 30mph.

My road, in company with too many others, has cars parked with all four wheels on the pavement, so as a result, pedestrians of all ages and disabilities are forced to walk in the road risking injury, or death if struck by speeding drivers (of which there are a few).

I have also witnessed a blind person with their guide dog being forced to negotiate round a car, with its four wheels on the pavement, across one of the so-called meadows in Morpeth Avenue.

I wish good luck to all those with their campaign but, if it is not properly policed, is there much point?

Mr J Brown, Morpeth Avenue, Borehamwood
