Town centre: Difficult to find room to change

J Brown is right (‘Generosity can’t stretch that far’, Your Views, June 19) and that’s got to do with the “keep a low profile” attitude.

But please note that this is only one consequence of a mass of council housing, benefits culture, radicated in Borehamwood, where more and more people also from other parts of the country and abroad write on their application Elstree and Borehamwood as favourite place, chasing the dream of getting a bargain house or flat close to London and easy to melt in that kind of chav tribe.

This is the capital of EastEnders: the monument of failure.

I feel more like we are deep into that story where people live a low-profile lifestyle, actors become a role model in an already run down society, where politicians and councillors are increasingly loosing trust and are out of touch. In my opinion in this environment, it becomes very difficult to find room for improvement, despite the effort of many businesses and the council to keep the name of the town high.

Look at the past to find out why this happened here and ask yourself why Radlett, Elstree and Bushey are more valuable areas?

Have a walk there and see from yourself the differences. I can’t write any comment on this now but will if there is a real interest from readers.

So Mr Brown, it looks like Borehamwood was designed to be the centre of the “claimant village”, which has now turned into a melting pot full of many different things just like a charity shop. The presence of charity organizations and their business are the mirror of this society, which we are part of and someone surely benefits from it.

Your comments of the town are mainly true, but as each time I meet somebody with those remarks I would answer this: YOU< Yourself what are you doing to make this town better? What are you doing when any organisation comes and offers to make a forgotten green spot greener like some organisations have started to do? Are you joining? Are you participating when a twin Town Association wants to recreate the community? Are you volunteering to help the elderly? We have to drop the complex we have about Elstree and Radlett, pls these towns aren’t better they just have more people who are ready to take time of their TV time and help the associative life
Let’s close Shenley Road next Sunday for the big lunch! Let’s get going! You pointed out some issues they are many!
