There’s still work to be done

I would like to thank all the people who voted for me in the recent county council election.

Unfortunately I was not successful and so will not personally be able to take forward many of the concerns raised by residents on the doorstep and in letters and emails.

Wherever possible, I will pass individual and local concerns on to existing and new councillors in Borehamwood North.

Some of the more general issues which I hope those elected will be able to take forward include:

  • Sorting out the parking problems that are blighting so many of our residential areas;
  • Publishing the new Cycling Network Review for Borehamwood and putting its proposals in place;
  • Ensuring the county council keeps the promise it made to me to maintain the Careline service in Borehamwood;
  • Bringing in the 20mph speed limit in residential areas as supported by Hertsmere Borough Council;
  • Supporting Surestart children’s centre services in Cowley Hill and Brookmeadow Wards;
  • Providing free transport to the BECC Surestart Children’s Centre on the B1 and B2 buses as has been tentatively agreed;
  • Continuing to support the Extended Schools Consortium in Borehamwood;
  • Providing more affordable housing both to rent and to buy;
  • Providing more facilities and things to do for young people;
  • Preventing potholes by footway and road maintenance.

It has been a privilege to represent Borehamwood North on the county council for the past 28 years.

I would like to thank my council colleagues, the staff of the county and borough councils and the many, many residents whom I have worked with over the years.

I hope we have managed, in our small way, to make life better for those who most needed our help.

John Metcalf, former Labour councillor, Hertfordshire County Council, Borehamwood North
