I was relieved to read last week that the community toilet scheme is up and running, and I would like to thank the Borehamwood & Elstree Times for the part it played in making it happen.

The Labour group first brought this to the council in January 2007, and it has taken until now for the idea to come to fruition.

Your paper has been on the case all the way, and I am sure if it were not for the publicity given over the past 20 months, we would still be waiting for it to become a reality.

Community toilet schemes are the way forward in terms of public conveniences, as they are cheaper to run and provide a safer, more comfortable environment. It is great to feel that we in the Labour group have brought forward this scheme and that the residents of Hertsmere will benefit.
