My entry for the National Poetry Competition titled ‘My Hometown’ was selected as a runner-up and I was asked if my poem about Borehamwood could be published in a book called ‘Home is Where the Heart is’, a collection of hometown winners which will be available in libraries and book shops this year.

Naturally, I am delighted that my first attempt at writing was so well received and I thought you may like a copy to print.

My Hometown

I remember a sunny place, kids could play and cycle race.

You may bump into Richard, Liz or Grace, knowing that face.

Autograph book to hand, fill it feeling very grand.

If working in Thatched Barn: heard many a yarn.

Stars would stay after shoot a meal, a swim to calm.

Beautiful building succumbed to fire, doing landmark only harm.

The Hertfordshire heart will always be with me.

Born and bred suited me to a tea.

Please treasure the heritage of my hometown.

Too many landmarks are torn down.

When a little out of box planning beautify, instead of jamming.

People cars and village life to the damming.

The crown is the old jewel to cherish, enhancement and renewal.

Retrospect after demolition is cruel.

Yes I’m a romantic, serves well when life is frantic.

Borehamwood atmosphere quite fantastic.

A gourmet restaurant wouldn’t go amiss.

Win Lottery, I wouldn’t hesitate to do the bizz.
