Further to Councillor Harvey Cohen’s letter (‘Plans would improve what we already have’, Your Views, January 30), I would like to point out that Borehamwood is the largest town in Hertsmere, with a population of more than 38,000 people, and yet we only warrant not just a proper theatre but a community theatre with 250 seats. Compare that to Radlett with a population of 8,000 with a theatre capacity of 300 and Potters Bar 22,000 and seating capacity of 411 at Wylotts.
Why does Borehamwood always get the short straw? We are contributing to the council coffers far more and yet the council cannot afford to give us a suitable theatre commensurate with the size of the town.
The ideal place for a theatre, where it once was, would be Elstree Way to break up the interminable flats.
