I am writing in response to Councillor Harvey Cohen’s letter (‘Plans would improve what we already have’, Your Views, January 30) regarding Mr H Marshall’s letter (‘Time to put right the wrong the council did’, Your Views, January 23).

There are a number of points that he did not address in Mr Marshall’s letter.

Mr Marshall is talking about a multi-functional theatre; I don’t doubt that the Ark is a high-quality theatre.

The point is that it is just a theatre and will be located outside the town centre and used primarily for school use in daytime and some evenings.

If the council were keen to emphasise the Ark’s importance, as Mr Cohen says, why is it that the Ark has not been properly sign posted and why are its stage productions not widely advertised in the press, etc? Venues outside the area are given better publicity e.g. the Wyllyotts theatre in Potters Bar.

Also if it is for the wider community, why put it in such an obscure location? It should be visible to the community and ideally centralised and easily accessible, like the Reel Cinema in the town centre. I think people will agree that Borehamwood is not spoilt for entertainment venues; looking on the websites we appear to only have two i.e. the Reel Cinemas and the Ark.

Given the expected rise in housing in the area (e.g. the Elstree corridor), there will be a demand for more entertainment facilities.

It follows that with this extra income one would expect the school to have its own theatre facility and a separate multi-functional one for the town.
