Recently, I read in the Metro newspaper, according to opinion polls, that the NHS will be a major issue at the forthcoming election – and so it should be.

Referring to your story (‘People desperately need us’, Borehamwood & Elstree Times, January 23), it’s par for the course that elected councillors should not lose out on any photo opportunity to carry favour with the electorate.

I find it hard to believe the aforementioned are unaware of the austerity policies and hardship caused by NHS cutbacks instigated by their Minister of Health Mr Jeremy Hunt, as they are members of the Conservative Party.

Are they aware of a poll taken by the British Medical Association, the representatives of our GPs, that Mr Hunt has been voted the worst health minister ever? Nye Bevan was voted the best.

I would say any comparison between the two, without being rude to Jeremy, is purely coincidental.

In an otherwise informative article, chief reporter Anna Slater informed us of the ramblings and useless information from a director of NHS England, in which she appealed to people to try their pharmacist, instead of using local A&E units.

When people are concerned about their health they consult their GPs when they are available or go to A&E.

There are not many witch doctors about and for most people a trip to Lourdes is out of the question.

Finally, how much is this person paid from the public purse for her drive?
