I would like to respond to Stephen Davidson’s letter ‘No Last Post at Shenley service’ (Your Views, November 14).
While I agree with what he says, and writing as one of the ministers who took part in the Remembrance service at Shenley War Memorial, there were representatives from the Christian denominational churches and the Jewish community taking part and in attendance.
We need to take into account the traditions and the feelings of our non-Christian friends when organising a public act of worship, which is the category the Remembrance service falls in and so is not primarily a Christian service.
Secondly, I have tried for several years now to find a competent bugler to play the Last Post and have so far been unsuccessful.
I would certainly like to hear from anyone that is a proficient bugler who could help out next year.
I do hope that this has helped to allay Mr Davidson’s concerns.
John Hayes
Assistant minister of St Martins Church, Shenley
