As town mayor, I would like to congratulate the Royal British Legion for ensuring that residents were able to pay their respects to our heroes.
The numbers of the pubic and organisations attending increase every year. The servicemen and women and those from the emergency services have made tremendous sacrifices to ensure we continue to live in a democracy. There was so much cooperation across a number of organisations involved in organising the parade. The town is proud to support the legion.
Thank you to the parade marshal for keeping all of us in our place for the parade and ensuring that the ceremony proceeded on time. The youth organisations did themselves proud as they were all looked so smart. The standard bearers performed their roles perfectly. The Air Cadet Band was the best ever. Thirty police cadets was the largest number that have ever marched in the parade. Thank you to those who laid wreaths of remembrance for so many different organisations.
Congratulations to Fred Grimes the newly-appointed chairman of the legion. It was great that Bill Davies was able to take the salute again.
At All Saints Church we enjoyed the Service of Remembrance. Thank you to Rev Richard Leslie and to the Archdeacon of St Albans for taking the service.
I think we can all be assured that all was done to remember those who laid down their lives or suffered trauma for us. We did remember them.
Cllr Pat Strack
Mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood
