I read with interest ‘Driver urges people to contest parking tickets’ (Times Series, October 10) and would like to bring to your readers’ attention the problems incurred with Saracens home games.

Last season, Saracens made arrangements with Barnet Borough Council for specific parking bays for the residents who are in the vicinity of Saracens to park on match days without incurring any parking fines by displaying a valid voucher. Also last season, Barnet Council notified all residents of the home match dates.

Unfortunately, the same courtesy has not been afforded this season by either Saracens or the council. I visit an elderly gentleman in Holders Hill Road, who does not have any access to a computer to find out the date of the home matches.

A home match was held on Saturday, October 11, and fortunately I remembered just in time to check online for the date of the next match. If I had not remembered and parked as usual outside the flats I would have received a parking fine.

The parking bays state ‘permit holders only on event days, but strangers and visitors have no idea when there is an ‘event day’. However, most of the turnings off Holders Hill Road show the event date, so you are expected to know to take a walk once parked to check if an event is happening and just hope you have not received a penalty ticket before you return to your car.

I would like to mention that I have written to Saracens for a list of their home matches but to date I have not received the courtesy of a reply.

I would also like to mention that I am in the process of writing to the council asking why residents have not received the same information as last season, unless, of course, by not providing this information the council can raise extra funds by issuing parking penalties to unsuspecting motorists.
