I am writing regarding the proposed development of the Legal & General site, Rowley Lane, Borehamwood.

I see through your website archives that this development was first put forward in May 2014 with a proposed 20,000-seater stadium, as well as the proposed facilities that are being put forward at the moment.

Your reporter has not mentioned the stadium since September 11.

The stadium seems to have been sidelined at this stage, but do we know how long for?

As for the development, as it stands at the moment, the green belt land that has been added to the plans is currently used as summer-grazing for the horses at Strangeways Farm.

Are sports facilities for ‘elite athletes’ a suitable excuse to dig up and build on green belt land?

The green belt is there to protect the countryside, not to sideline it for private developments such as football pitches.

The young representative from Lexington Communications so kindly told me that it really was not a problem as “the pitches are green” – really?

Other concerns I have are: Has the council or the developers done an environmental impact assessment?

Has the council assessed the traffic impact on the surrounding area of Well End, Shenley, Ridge, and the single track cut through the lane past Strangeways Farm to the A1?

We all know the traffic is not going to go out of the gate and sit in the queue to get onto the A1.

Parking issues when the car parks are full where are the visitors going to park? Studio Way? Well End?

The developers are paying a fortune for the green belt land and the hiring out of their facilities is not going to produce enough of a revenue to pay for the investment, so a stadium is their only other option.

All concerned may deny that option right now but the north London stadium is not a concept I dreamt up, so do not be thinking that it is just a few green football pitches taking up green belt land, it will be 20,000 people taking over the green space of Borehamwood with cars and pollution, traffic and hell.

As the local newspaper, I would like to know why the story has only been reported from the favourable council side and does not include the issues of environment, pollution, traffic or community?
