I have just read that residential parking charges are to be increased from August 1 (‘Parking prices to go up across borough’, Borehamwood & Elstree Times, July 4).

Apparently, a survey was carried out and, apparently, residents said they didn’t mind paying a little more for parking to help fund vital services. Obviously these ‘residents’ either have off-street parking or live in a road that is not frequented by shoppers and commuters. We not only have to pay to park our family car in our road (not always outside our house) but also have to pay for visitors. I hope they appreciate their council tax has not been increased for a number of years thanks to us.
