Elstree and Borehamwood Green Belt Society welcomed an encouraging number of supporters to its AGM on May 6 at Allum Hall, Elstree. We heard a lucid exposition of the proposed new development in the Elstree Way Corridor from Councillor Dr Harvey Cohen. This is a time of great change for our community with 1,000-2,000 new houses and flats planned and an influx of new people.

We should welcome the positive possibilities of this, such as new jobs and local prosperity, but keep a very wary watch on the plans to make sure that the necessary infrastructure changes keep pace with the population increase.

If you care about preserving our green countryside and providing good education, health and leisure facilities (eg Maxwell Community Centre) then please join the Elstree and Borehamwood Green Belt Society. We need new members to add weight and authority to our voice on your behalf. We are here to represent you and your views.

Membership forms can be obtained from membership secretary and new town mayor Cllr Pat Strack by calling 020 8953 3151 or emailing pat@ebgreenbelt.orgouk or call me on 020 8953 1436 or email ann@ebgreenbelt.org.uk
