As so often happens, the chairman of Hertsmere UKIP Frank Ward has completely missed the point of my letter published the week before last (‘Not a true reflection of the people’, Your Views, May 2) in his letter (‘No wonder voters seek change’, Your Views, May 9).
I was complaining about the fact that the seven UKIP candidates on the European election list were from the same section of the community, ie all white men and not a true reflection of the people they will represent. I would have been equally appalled if all the candidates had been white women, black women or black men. Candidates should reflect the population they seek to represent, which is why the Labour party has a policy of alternate men and women on the list. After all, half of the population is female.
I haven’t received leaflets from the other parties yet, but I hope they will be a more accurate reflection of the population they seek to represent than that given to us by UKIP.
