The threat posed to businesses in Glenhaven Avenue is a worrying prospect, not just for the workers whose jobs are potentially at risk, but for the residents who rely on them.
It is important that small businesses, which offer a valuable service to residents, are given all the support they need to continue operating. But with 5,000 more homes needed in the borough before 2021, Hertsmere Borough Council is left in a difficult position. The worry is that, with such lofty housing targets, Borehamwood's infrastructure will come under increasing pressure and shops and businesses will be pushed out, leaving a town without the resources needed to serve the increased community.
