Sir Christopher Lee, 87, has worked at the Shenley Road-based Elstree Studios on several occasions.

Lee's films at the historic studios have so far included: The Devil Rides Out, Taste the Blood of Dracula and Scars of Dracula.

By way of a tribute to Sir Christopher, who is currently celebrating the honour in New Mexico, I have decided to take a very brief look at just three of the various Hammer horror films that the actor made at Elstree Studios:

The Devil Rides Out:

The Devil Rides Out was shot at Elstree Studios over a period of eight weeks from Monday 7th August 1967 to Friday 29th September 1967.

Sir Christopher Lee played the role of Duc de Richleau in the film, which also featured Charles Gray (who went on to play the narrator in the film version of The Rocky Horror Show) and then-future Emmerdale star Patrick Mower.

The 95 minute film, which dealt with the evils of Satanism and devil worship, was directed by Terence Fisher and released in the UK in July 1968.

Taste the Blood of Dracula:

Taste the Blood of Dracula saw Lee playing one of his most-famous roles again - that of Dracula. No-doubt this was a role that really gave the actor something to sink his teeth into!

The cast of this film, which took was in production between Monday 27th October 1969 and Friday 5th December 1969, also included: Geoffrey Keen and then-future Confessions' film actress, Linda Hayden.

Scars of Dracula:

Scars of Dracula saw Sir Christopher back in the role of Dracula.

Filmed between Monday 11th May 1970 and Friday 19th June 1970, Scars of Dracula was one of several films to be made by Hammer Films which used Stages 8 & 9 at Elstree Studios.

It's weird to think that where Chris Tarrant now sits to host Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, is where once Sir Christopher roamed in Dracula's famous black cloak!

The cast of Scars also included: Dennis Waterman, his Minder days still then nine years in the future, actress Jenny Hanley and former Dr Who actor, Patrick Troughton.

A source has been quoted as saying that Sir Christopher Lee, who has made a prolific list of films, will be: 'Knighted for his services to drama.'

I am personally delighted that this well-deserved knighthood has been bestowed upon the legendary actor.
