THERE are at least six sites for a railfreight terminal that would be more suitable than the former Handley Page airfield, landscape expert Jonathan Billingsleigh has told the hearing.

Giving evidence for the council, he explained he had analysed about 20 sites using a different method from Helioslough.

Helioslough's analysis concluded that the land between Park Street and London Colney was the most suitable for a large goods yard.

But Mr Billingsleigh, whose method emphasised factors such as sensitivity and capacity, said: “Radlett and Colnebrook are broadly comparable.

“Swanscombe in Kent is a good site - it is level, there is no nearby residential development and it is not in the Green Belt.

“Redhiil Aerodrome is a good site. There is a lot of woodland there to provide screening.

“My method has been used in a whole range of studies for wind farms and so on.

“Radlett is an adequate site - there are six which are good or very good.”
