Elstree film festival strikes back for third time

The Empire Strikes Back, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and The Dam Busters will be among the blockbusters being screened at this summer's Elstree Film Festival.

Details of the third annual celebration of movies made in Elstree and Borehamwood were announced this week.The festival, organised by Elstree Screen Heritage, will be launched with the 24th Elstree Film Evening, at Elstree Film Studios, on June 28, followed by six days of screenings of much-loved films.The line-up highlights the variety of the town's film production heritage, with screenings to suit all ages. Movies being shown on the big screen will include The Great Muppet Caper, Mutiny on the Buses, School for Scoundrels and The Shining.It is believed stars, writers and producers who worked on the films will attend a number of the screenings and will take part in question and answer sessions.The films will all be shown at the Reel Cinema, in Shenley Road, Borehamwood.Paul Welsh, Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council's entertainments officer, said: "The film evening is a marvellous way to celebrate our local talent and film and television heritage. "It always appeals to film fans, residents and people who have worked at the studios at some point during their career. "It's a very enjoyable evening and offers a nostalgic trip down memory lane."Tickets for the film evening cost £10 and must be bought in advance as seating is limited.Individual tickets for seperate festival events cost £6 for adults and £4.50 for under-15s. They can be booked at the Reel Cinema or by visiting reelcinemas.co.uk.Alternatively, tickets for all events can be bought from Fairway Hall, Brook Road, Borehamwood.
