Banks in Borehamwood are taking part in the ‘biggest coffee morning in the world’ next Friday.

Metrobank, in Theobold Street, and Barclays Bank in Shenley Road, are holding the events to raise cash for Macmillan Nurses.

Hundreds of coffee mornings will be held in banks across the country on the same day,  as part of a national campaign run by the cancer charity.

Shoppers will also have the chance to buy a raffle ticket at the banks on the day, with proceeds going to Macmillan Nurses.

The Borehamwood Rotary Club is holding the event in Metrobank, in memory of member Steve Elmer who died of the disease in his 60s last year.

David Clout, press officer for the club, said: “We are particularly passionate about supporting Macmillan, because Steve was too young to die. He went way too soon.”

Barclays Bank staff members have been told by their bosses that however much money they raise from the event will be doubled.

The coffee mornings will he held from 10am to 2pm in Metrobank, and from 9.30am to 4.30pm in Barclays Bank.
