Hertfordshire County Council say bulk of part-time street lights are now working as they should and blackouts should stop by the weekend.

The council said in a statement: β€œIt appears that the bulk of the part-night converted lights are now operating as they should: that is, on from dusk to midnight and then on again in the early morning to dawn.”

From tonight the council expects fewer outages with the problem persisting in some local areas and said: "Our current understanding is that there problem will cease by the weekend."

The statement also says that the peak of the problem was experienced on Monday and Tuesday evening when streetlights across south west Hertfordshire went out at 7pm instead of the intended time of midnight.
