Pupils from a dance school were victorious at the weekend, with students winning more than 50 trophies in a national competition.

Fifteen dancers aged between seven and 15 from K’s School of Dance, based at Maxwell Park Community Centre, in Maxwell Road, Borehamwood, took part in the weekend-long event in Kent.

More than 300 children from across England and Wales took part in the dance festival, which took place in Rochester, Kent, and featured contests in disco freestyle, street dance and hip hop styles.

Karen Carloni, who runs the dance school said: “I can’t explain how happy I am for all the girls, it’s absolutely fantastic. To go to the contest with such a small number and come back with all these trophies is amazing.

“I’m so proud of all the girls and they all left their mark and did the club proud.”

Kerrie Yule, 31, mother of 12-year-old Charlie who is a member of the school said: "Im so proud of her and the whole school. They all did a fantastic job.

“Charlie’s always dancing, she doesn’t walk anywhere she dances her way there and it's hard to get her to stop.”

Mrs Carloni has been teaching at Maxwell Park Community Centre for more than eight years, but faces the possibility of having to move after Hertfordshire County Council earmarked the centre for closure.

She said: “Maxwell Park is such an important centre to me and it has been for so many girls who I’ve trained over the years.

“If the centre was to close, it may mean my dance school will have to close, because anywhere else in Borehamwood is half the size and double the price, and I can’t increase the prices for the girls.

“The centre is so important and I really hope it stays open.”
