A theatre group for young people has been given a £600 grant to spend on new costumes for next year’s performances.

Theatre Club Kids, based at Meryfield School, Theobald Street, Borehamwood, was donated the money by borough councillors and will be spent on new dance wear, which can be adapted for the company’s shows throughout the year.

Rita Cooper, manager of Theatre Club Kids, said: "We are very grateful for the money as it will help us provide costumes for the many shows that we perform each year.

“The children and the teachers are thrilled to be getting new costumes, which will be using for the first time in the summer term.”

Over the Christmas period, the theatre club, for children between the ages of four and 18, performed an adaptation of Over the Rainbow and older students will soon be putting on a cabaret show.

Councillors Ernie Butler, Ann Harrison and Richard Butler all gave money from their Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme, which allows people to apply for money to help improve their area.
