Pupils were treated to a school trip to learn about the history of Borehamwood this week.

More than 60 youngsters of year one and two from Monksmead School visited the Elstree and Boreham Wood Museum, in Drayton Road, on Tuesday and Wednesday to learn about the history of the town.

Pupils were given a short presentation, by Dave Armitage, on Borehamwood Then and Now, and were shown old pictures of the town and then pictures of the same view taken recently to show them how it has changed.

They were told how Borehamwood was once a small farming village and how it was put on the map when the railway was first introduced in 1868 and grew to the town it is today.

Alan Lawrence curator of the museum said: “Both groups really enjoyed themselves and the reaction and enthusiasm they gave when they recognised places was great.”

Year two teacher Anni Hardwick said: “I think it was great experience for them and it was really good to show them what Borehamwood was like in the past.

“They all really enjoyed it and they all got really excited when they recognised places in the town.”

Pupils at the school, in Hillside Avenue, are currently doing a project on local history and they’re own family history.
