Hertsmere Borough Council website receives good rating

THE WEBSITE for the borough council has received three out of four stars in a report by an independent watchdog.

Hertsmere Borough Council’s site, www.hertsmere.gov.uk, was assessed by Socitm (Society of Communication Information Technology Management) in its 2010 Better Connected Report.

Socitm annually assesses the website of every council across the country and marks against a number of criteria including content, accessibility and usability.

Three star sites are given the mark of good. The council passed in sections involving jobs, library services, schools, planning, refuse collection, content use of an A-Z and use of search.

Areas for improvement are links to other sites, news value, email response, navigation, use of locations, accessibility and readability.

Council leader and portfolio holder with responsibility for information services, Councillor Morris Bright (Conservative), said: "This is great news for residents. We recognise that not everyone has access to a computer - and therefore our website - which is why we offer a range of ways in which residents can get in touch with us and find out information.

“However, more and more people look to internet sites for help and it is important that our website offers a range of services so visitors to it can not only find out about things such as waste collections, but can also pay bills, apply for grants and find out about what is happening in their local area - and all from the comfort of their own home.

“We are very pleased the site has been rated highly. We will work hard over the coming months to tackle the areas which Socitm has suggested need attention so we can continue to improve the services we offer online for our residents, visitors to the area and local businesses."

i am a bit concerned with your comments - the award was from an organisation not linked to Hertsmere at all . If you have any comments or concerns with the website then i would like to hear from you. I am chair of Scrutiny at Hertsmere and we take comments by residents into all the services undertaken by Hertsmere Council very seriously.

I have to say though I am not uncritical of Hertsmere Council their website is excellent though it is a pity their webcam of council meetings seems to have been removed. That apart they could teach the town council a thing or two as they are always way out of date and they give you no news about stuff that matters like what the rate is that they may have set! What are they hiding?
