More than 30 people came together at Borehamwood Library on Tuesday evening to listen to bestselling author James Bradley talk about his latest novel.
Set in 1826, The Resurrectionist tells the story of Gabriel Swift, who arrives in London to serve an apprenticeship to the city’s great anatomist.
But the character gradually gets drawn into the sinister underworld of Georgian London and becomes embroiled in the resurrection trade, or body snatching, and eventually discovers that taking a life is easier than it seems.
This is Mr Bradley’s third novel and it has been featured on Richard and Judy’s Summer Read Shortlist.
His books have also won or been shortlisted for a number of major Australian and international literary awards, and he has twice been named as one of the Sydney Morning Herald's Best Young Australian Novelists.
The event, presented as part of county’s programme for the National Year of Reading, saw Mr Bradley, 41, in conversation with his editor and director of fiction for Faber publishers, Lee Brackstone, at the library in Elstree Way.
County Councillor Keith Emsall, executive member for education and culture said: "We feel very privileged that James Bradley has chosen to visit Borehamwood Library and spend time with local readers.
“Considering that he is only visiting two libraries while he is in the UK, this is a rare treat.”
