A warning is being sent out to residents in Hertsmere after a spate of burglaries in Radlett.

Last month, three homes in the village were targeted by thieves. At around 6pm on July 19, there was an attempted burglary in Craigwell Avenue. Two men tried to force the front door but were disturbed by the owners.

The first suspect is described as having dark brown hair and wearing a striped top. The second was wearing a black T-shirt and black trousers and was said to have olive-coloured skin.

On another occasion between 7.30pm on July 21 and 4.30pm on July 22, a screwdriver was used to cause £1,400 worth of damage to patio doors in what is thought to be an attempted burglary at a house in Watling Street.

And between July 19 and 24, a locked window was forced open and a camera and jewellery were stolen from a property in the Ridgeway.

Sian Lockley, chief inspector for Hertsmere, said: “We have carried out a number of proactive operations to try and reduce burglaries in Hertsmere. However these latest incidents in Radlett are causing us concern. We are hoping members of the public may be able to assist us.

“I’m not asking people to become curtain twitchers but to keep an eye on their neighbours’ properties, especially when they are away on holiday and especially watch out for the elderly and vulnerable members of our communities.”

Letters are being delivered by police to Hertsmere residents who leave their windows and doors insecure as part of the constabulary’s crack down on break-ins.
