Royal wedding fever gripped the nation as millions of us watched Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot at Windsor Castle on Saturday.

In a fascinating ceremony, the couple made their vows in front of family and an array of VIP guests including the Beckhams and George Clooney.

At home, some were not content on just enjoying the occasion in front of the television.

Cllr Vince said: "It was an amazing day and we all had such a great time. It was just so patriotic. Thank you to everyone who made it such a fantastic day.

"It was actually a joint celebration recognising the achievements of Boreham Wood as well. When Borehamwood does something together, we do it really well. It was a real community effort."

A giant card was signed by dozens of people who attended and Cllr Vince hopes to take a couple of residents down and deliver to Buckingham Palace.

Meanwhile, Elstree & Borehamwood town council held its very own royal wedding screening; the first official engagement for new mayor Victor Eni.

More than 70 people attended as a large screen was put up at Fairway Hall on Saturday alongside a traditional tea party. The event began with Nick Male of the Woodsmen leading the room with an acoustic rendition of the national anthem which had the whole room on their feet waving their flags.

Town Council entertainments officer Dan Salter said: “Having a traditional street style party with a big screen meant that a large number of our senior residents had the opportunity to celebrate with other people instead of watching it at home alone.”

At Busy Bees nursery in Shenley, children held a garden party on Friday, which also received a visit from the Mayor of Hertsmere, Charles Goldstein, who helped cut the wedding cake.

Nursery manager Leanne Mitchell said: "We have had an amazing time here today and it has made everyone feel very patriotic and proud to be part of such an amazing event. This is something the children will remember in years to come."

Gilah nursery in Croxdale Road in Borehamwood also celebrated the Royal Wedding with cucumber sandwiches and scones. The children dressed up as princes and princesses, and the teachers as brides and wedding guests.
