Works on a river and its banks which run through four parks has been completed in time for spring.

Enhancements have been made to Tykes Water in Borehamwood, which runs through Aberford Park, Leeming Park, Brook Meadow, and Haggerston Park.

Some of the improvements which have been made include reed reduction which has improved access for wildfowl, removal of litter from in the lake, and reduction of shrubbery to improve views and open up the area.

Deadwood and unstable trees have been removed which has opened up light to the lake and will hopefully improve water quality.

Councillor Seamus Quilty, portfolio holder for environment, said: “The work to Tykes Water will improve the natural habitat for both wildlife and wildfowl, as well as enhance the area for visitors to the parks. These parks are a haven for wildlife and visitors alike, but the improvement work has ensured it serves as an important resource for people as well as our local wildlife, well into the future."

He added: “The main aim of the project was to enhance the park for people as well as wildlife. These works will enable and encourage more of the local community to access and enjoy these areas, which is an important green space to this area.”
