Customers at a supermarket can further support the poppy appeal in a recycling initiative.

Sainsbury's in Darkes Lane, Potters Bar, has launched an appeal to recycle poppies to raise further funds for the Royal British Legion's poppy appeal.

This is the fifth year the store has run the initiative, where the poppies are broken down into their component parts and either recycle or repurposed into new poppies for next year's appeal.

Store manager Karen Staples said: "The Poppy Appeal was a great success this year for fundraising and we’d like to thank everyone who contributed.

"With this recycling initiative, we wanted to show our customers another way they can support The Royal British Legion and make sure their poppies don’t go to waste.

"We hope the recycling drive proves a success with our customers."

The poppy recycling box is available at the customer service desk from November 13-30.
