An academy has won £12,000 to install new LED lighting throughout the school.

The Archer Academy in Eagans Close, East Finchley, won in a public vote to receive the top prize of £12,000 from the Marks and Spencer Energy Community Energy Fund, beating six projects.

The school canvassed for votes for six weeks after their shortlisting in July, gaining 4,321 public votes altogether.

The lighting will be part of the school's aim to reduce its carbon footprint and save in energy costs, and be installed throughout the school buildings.

Lucy Harrison, Head Teacher at Archer Academy, said: "Sustainability is incredibly important to us and this project is a major step in our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and doing our bit for the environment.

"It will also save the school funds, which can then be used to directly benefit our students and community."

Ms Harrison also thanked their partner, Woodhouse College, and all those who voted.

This is the third year of the fund, which donates up to £300,000 each year to support community renewable energy projects.

This year move than 180 projects applied for funding and more than 100,000 people voted.
