A war memorial plaque has been installed in a library.

East Finchley Library opened the installation of a plaque listing the names of local men who died in the First World War.

The plaque was formerly a part of the Royal British Legion on Brackenbury Road, which was demolished in 2013, but the plaque was recovered in 2014 and placed under ownership of Barnet Council before its installation.

Cllr Arjun Mittra, who was involved in the plaque's installation, said: "“I am delighted that we were able to save this plaque. We must remember our war dead and honour them properly.

"East Finchley library is a perfect location for the plaque which commemorates local people who made the ultimate sacrifice.

"I am disappointed though that there has not been a proper rededication ceremony, which would have been a good opportunity to bring the community together, remember the war dead and teach the next generation about what happened. I have asked the council if a ceremony could be arranged."
