A Bake Off judge joined care home residents as their after-lunch speaker.

Bake Off judge, restaurateur and author Prue Leith was a guest of honour at a lunch held by Jewish Care's Options Committee, at their Betty and Asher Loftus Centre.

The culinary expert was taken on a tour of Kun Mor and George Kiss Home, one of three located in the centre, and visited pupils from the Eden Primary School who were making biscuits with residents, before joining 150 guests for what she named "the best charity lunch I have eaten."

She said to the guests: "I am so pleased to be here. As I get older I visit more care homes, this one is a delight.

"It is well run and friendly, I can tell you. I would be happy to be here."

The lunch raised £8,000 for the charity, some of which will be used to buy specialist equipment for a new fitness facility for residents at the Betty and Asher Loftus Centre.

Vice chairman of Jewish Care, Debbie Fox, said: "We were honoured to have Prue Leith here to talk to us. A huge thank you to her for her time and open, honest and entertaining talk.

"The Options Committee is one of Jewish Care’s longest serving fundraising committees, they work tirelessly to raise vital funds to support our services and I would like to thank them for all their work and congratulate them on a very successful event."
