In a competition which showcases diversity and heritage through inspiring photography, Madeleine Winston's work is the perfect choice for shortlisting.

From Hendon, Madeleine's Hand and Lock image is set to be displayed in the House of Commons among others at a prestigious award ceremony, The EEF Photography Competition, for her nomination in the amateur category.

Madeleine hopes that her work will change people's perception of the manufacturing industry, which is the core purpose underpinning the awards, which are taking place for their eighth year.

Young photographer Alessio Grespi, from Camden, is another shortlisted photographer for her photograph of King's Cross station.

"Manufacturing offers lots of opportunities for exciting and dynamic images – the challenge as a photographer is to capture it in a single shot," he says.

"I’m delighted to be shortlisted and honoured that my work will be on display in the House of Commons."

The winning photographers will be awarded at the House of Commons, with the successful contestants winning £5,000 of prizes.

Terry Scuoler, the chief executive of the EEF, says he can not wait to see the images along with other shortlisted shots on display in December.

"This competition is all about capturing how innovative and exciting modern manufacturing is," he says.

"Both photographers should be very proud that their images successfully capture the ingenuity and dynamism of our industry."

This year's theme is "Made By Britain", with many of the competition's entries coming from British photographers, amateurs and people under 20.

The winners will be announced on December 12 at the glamorous gala event in the House of Commons.
