Everything’s coming up roses for green fingered residents as a new allotment has been opened.

The Stapleton Gardens Allotments were opened by the Elstree and Borehamwood Town Mayor Cllr Eric Silver on Sunday, September 10.

The ceremony was attended by Council Warden Peter Digweed who worked hard to prepare the site with the Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council, and he is due to retire later this month.

The 54 five-pole plots on this site funded by developers have already been allocated to avid gardeners.

Mayor Silver said: “Stapleton has had a chequered history. It has been allotments before, a wildlife area for local schools and a single occupancy business garden.

“But the Council is delighted to see the site being used so productively again and long may it continue.”

To register an interest in taking on a plot contact the town council on 0208 207 1382 to join the waiting list.
