A former Commonwealth competitor, now a police officer, won in three categories in a national judo competition.

PC Fred Itiose, who transferred from Harrow Police to Barnet and is based in Colindale, won gold in three categories at the Police Sport UK National Judo Championships in Derbyshire this weekend.

PC Itiose, formerly a Commonwealth silver-medallist in the sport, beat competitors from more than 20 other police services across the UK, with none of his opponents lasting the duration.

He competed in the Mens Veterans +100kg, Mens Masters +100kg and the open weight category.

Borough Commander Chief Det Supt Simon Rose said: "We are delighted to celebrate Fred's judo success and the trophies will be on display at Colindale, but we have benefited more, to date, from the multiple language skills and life experience he has brought to policing."

For the third Dan grade black belt this is not his first triumph at these championships, having won while working in Harrow and previously at Bedfordshire Police.
