Dangerous cycling has left one woman to start a petition before “one of these kids end up getting killed.”

Lisa Troth, 33 started a campaign just under two weeks ago to bring the issue to the attention of the local authorities which has now reached nearly 200 signatures.

She started the campaign after seeing everyone complaining about the problem on various Facebook groups but without any solutions being offered.

She said: “They are behaving very dangerously, swerving in front of cars and hurling abuse at people.

“They pull so close to the cars, then they pull away again like they are playing chicken. Parents driving their own children have to brake hard and everyone is frustrated.

“Something needs to be done or one of these kids is going to end up getting killed.”

The junior buyer had experienced this when driving behind a learner driver in Hartforde Road, Borehamwood.

When the learner pulled over, the cyclists turned around and started cycling towards the oncoming traffic.

She said: “I know that some people won’t agree with me, but I don’t think it is necessary to blame the parents as it is not a reflection on them.

“I know some parents have found out and have disciplined the children at home by taking away their bikes or electronics, but once them back they just carry on.

“I think there should be more authorities that come along to dish out punishments because there is only so much parents can do

“If police are patrolling the areas where it happens and if they see the kids doing it they can take their names down and issue them with a caution or even take them home in the first instance of doing it.”

This has been an ongoing problem in Borehamwood, with many people taking to social media to recount their experiences of similar problems.

Vice-chairman of the Elstree and Borehamwood Residents’ Association Lawrence Stack said: “What is going on all around Borehamwood?

“As a town we seem to be terrorized by the youths I think all the councillors and all there helpers that could put so much time and effort into getting us to vote for national parties should now show as much time and effort into trying to solve this out of control situation.”
