Staff from Tweens Pharmacy, High Street, Bushey were among those evacuated from the road at around 2.00pm on Monday, May 22.

The street was closed that afternoon as there was concern that the damaged building may collapse and pull down other buildings in the street.

The pharmacists were concerned that they would not be able to provide around 100 prescriptions for patients who rely on their medication.

The shop was opened last night at around 5.00pm for the team to deal with the back log of prescriptions they had to deal with.

Employee Ranju Vedagarbha, 27, said: “We did have a lot of problems, but we have managed to deal with them.

“We have had a lot of phone calls from customers who were concerned about what happened.

“On Monday we heard a noise, but we had no idea what had happened.”

Tweens Pharmacy owner Raj Pandya said: “There was a lot of shouting and screaming, we thought there had been a fight.

“We deliver a lot of prescriptions to people who are not well as well as to care homes and people are at risk without their medication.

“The buildings in this street are very old, they are around 100 years old, and it seems like they will have to knock that one down for it to be safe.

High Street was reopened to the public at around 7.00pm on Tuesday, May 23.

Four builders were taken to hospital with minor injuries as the roof of the three-storied terrace-building came down.

The roof, back and front walls came down due to a lack of support to shop that had been closed for over a decade.

It is thought that the property had recently been bought and was being turned into a cycle shop, with extensive works underway to transform the premises.

Firefighters from Watford attended the scene, along with colleagues from Garston, St Albans, Rickmansworth and Potters Bar fire stations but the emergency was handled by 4.30 on Monday.

Hertfordshire County Council have advised that the issue has been passed on to the Health and Safety Executive to deal with the building.

Hertsmere Borough Council have been contacted for comment regarding the current status of the building.
