Pupils and rugby players are collaborating on a weekly community action project.
Mill Hill School pupils are working with Saracens Rugby Club to set up a project for young adults with autism as part of the “Sarries Skills Club”.
England and Saracens hooker Jamie George, who has been involved with the project as a trustee of the Saracens Foundation, said: “Seeing the reaction of the parents was really powerful.
“Lots of them are full-time carers and the training session affords them a couple of hours to relax, chat to other parents, play cards or even catch 40 winks because it’s a 24/7 care. That’s invaluable.”
Mr George also called the club “the only programme of its kind” which helps those with autism and learning difficulties through rugby.
The aim of the skills club is to provide a positive experience of sport for everyone, with its foundation in structure and routine to boost the players’ confidence.
