Figures show that lowering wholesale fuel prices are not being reflected in retail prices.

FairFuelUK released stats showing that while wholesale fuel is currently 4p cheaper than seven weeks ago, the amount customers are paying has only dropped by 1p.

The campaign also claim that inflation has risen “unnecessarily” as a result, with families and businesses paying the price.

FairFuelUK founder Howard Cox said: “Everything about the shadowy world of the vehicle fuel supply chain has a musty repugnant smell about the way it formulates pump prices.

“It is crucial that the Government wakes up to this perennial fleecing of hard working drivers and small businesses that they continue to ignore.

“If millions of motorists can see this rip off taking place every time they fill up, why can’t Whitehall?”

The campaign suggested the introduction of a price monitoring body such as OfGem or PumpWatch to free up money that could be used in other ways, such as to fund the NHS or to lower emissions.

Chair of FairFuel APPG Charlie Elphicke MP said: “This is strong evidence that drivers are being ripped off by greedy big oil companies.

“Pump prices fall like a feather but jump like a rocket when the oil price changes.”

The data was collected from Portland Fuels, RAC Foundation, PetrolPrices.Com and PumpWatch.

FairFuelUK launched in 2011 and has 1.4m supporters.
