A popular five-a-side football ground could be violating health and safety standards and may lead to injuries.

Powerleague, in Mill Hill, provides 12 outdoor pitches for teams to play five- and seven-a-side football matches on.

However, the pitches are not up to scratch with journalist Dan Freedman, who uses the pitch for an amateur league, describing them as “really dangerous – full of holes and uneven surfaces”.

He said: “There are potholes and someone will get badly injured.

“Many of the floodlights don't work so often we are playing under half light rather than bright light.

“The metal wire surrounding the pitch is full of large holes due to wear and tear so the ball goes out constantly.

“We have been complaining about it for months still nothing has been done so now I have complained to Barnet councils health and safety team.

“The whole place just reeks of poor management."

Photos taken by Mr Freedman show the half-way line is a thin strip of white turf that's loose, there are potholes in the pitch, the concrete underneath is exposed and the ground is full of patches.

It is understood the centre manager has to glue down loose turf which comes up after every match.

Mr Freedman has been unable to reach Powerleague management and so took his complaint to Barnet Council’s health and safety team.

An unnamed Barnet Council spokesperson said: “We can confirm we have received a complaint about Powerleague in Mill Hill and council officers will be visiting shortly.

“We are unable to provide any further details at this stage.”

Powerleague Mill Hill have not yet responded to request for comment.
