Work continues to fix major disruptions to the water supply in Barnet.

Affinity Water technicians have been working to fix a fault at the Arkley reservoir since yesterday afternoon (February 20) which has affected water in the EN4, EN5, N12 and N20 areas more than most.

Many households saw their water go off around lunchtime and it was not restored until the early hours of this morning (February 21).

Rossiter Fields resident Toni Fulton lost her water supply for nearly 14 hours when it shorted just after midday and was not returned until 2am.

The mother of three said: “It was the worst time ever – no water to prepare food, drinks or baths.

“We had spent time at Willows Farm and desperately needed showers but the water was trickling out a brown rusty colour and it had bits in it,

“I am pleased the problem has been resolved, we could not have gone another day with no taps.”

According to an update this morning from Affinity Water, the problem has still not been fixed at Arkley reservoir but water is being diverted from other sources to help residents.

A spokesperson said: “Our technicians have been working throughout the night to open a faulty valve at Arkley reservoir which has affected supplies to customers.

“Work is continuing onsite to resolve this – we have been working all night to bring in water from other areas to supply as many customers as possible while this work continues.

“We would like to thank our customers for their continued patience.”

MP Theresa Villiers, whose Chipping Barnet constituency has been largely affected, has been communicating with Affinity Water about getting the problem fixed quickly.

She said: “I am worried to hear many homes in Barnet have been without water today.

“I have been assured Affinity Water are working to resolve the issue.

“I am urging Affinity to do everything they can to get this sorted as soon as possible.

“I will keep up the pressure on this until all homes are reconnected.”
