The community have come together to raise money for a brand new play area suitable for toddlers in the area.

A committee formed by residents of Shenley found there is a huge need for a suitable, safe, supervised and purpose toddler play area within the existing tea rooms.

Currently Shenley Park with The Orchard Café and Shenley Tea Rooms only offers play equipment for children Key Stage 1 and above.

On August 21 there was a fundraiser in order to raise money for the new play area with the Mayor of Hertsmere Peter Rutledge with more than 700 visitors.

Committee member Jenna Cash said: “We raised more than £3,300 in the three hour event which is fantastic and means we are so close to our £10,000 target for the toddler area project when added to the total raise before the event.

“We want to thank everyone that attended our family fun day and to everyone who volunteered, had a stall, donated their equipment, a raffle prize or made a donation.

“The event was a huge success and we thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a wonderful and happy atmosphere and brilliant community spirit.

“We hope that everyone who was able to join us had a great time and to those who were unable to be there, if you would still like to support the project please visit our crowd funding page.”

The reason for trying to raise money for the play area is because the committee members believe outdoor play enhances a child’s learning experience.

All the money raised goes straight to the Park Trust and anyone who wants to donate can still do so here.
