THE fate of Victoria Park’s lodge will be determined in less than two weeks - and neighbours are urging people to voice their outrage.

Proposals for a three-story block of eighty flats, with underground parking, to replace the lodge in Victoria Park, Long Lane, Finchley, has sparked concern among the community.

A total of 385 objections to the plans have been submitted online via Barnet Council's planning website, compared with 45 in support.

The deadline for neighbours to voice their concerns is tomorrow (August 24) and the determination deadline is planned for September 5.

Sandy Anderson of The Ridgeway, right by the park, is one of many opposed to the plans, and has been canvassing the neighbourhood for support.

Mr Anderson, who has lived in the area for 23 years, said: “To take away a chunk of the park, is just appalling. It is out of keeping with the area.

“We need more green spaces, and we need more homes but they need to be in the right place. There are plenty of brownfield sites that could be used for new houses.”

A report from the Transport for London said there were no concerns with the proposals and said the distance from the bus stop to the entrance is "ample”.

Barnet Council previously said that despite people's concerns, letters were sent out to people in the area.

A council spokesperson, who the authority refused to name, said: “Each planning application is considered on its merits.

"There is currently a consultation underway to allow people to comment on the proposals, this has included letters being sent to a number of neighbouring properties and a site notice being put in place nearby.

“Any concerns raised during the consultation will form part of the information which the Planning Committee will use when making its decision.”
