Players are celebrating after winning the People’s Postcode Lottery last weekend.

Neighbours from Meadow Road, Borehamwood, won the Saturday Street Prize on August 13 after their postcode WD 6 1TL was drawn as a winner.

Joe Jupp, 23, was at home with his girlfriend Sam when there was a knock at his door.

Mr Jupp said: “I just cannot believe I have won £25,000 – it is honestly the best shock I have had all year.

“We have just booked a holiday to Morocco so now we will be able to do it in style.

“It also means I will have enough for a deposit to get on the property ladder so when I say this when has changed my life, it really has.”

Tina McDonald, 45, and her partner Lee Goodrum, 46, each play with their own ticket so shared a £50,000 prize.

Mr Goodrum said he was over the moon to discover they had won and words could not describe how they were feeling.

He said: “We will be able to pay a few bills and have a great time. Tina’s car is about six years old so we will be looking for an upgrade too.

“I joined up when I heard about all the amazing charities that players support. You can really see the difference that the money raised makes locally in your own community and that is amazing.”

More than £135million has been raised to date by players of the charity lottery for good causes across Great Britain and internationally.

A project that players have supported near Borehamwood is the Herts Sport and Wellbeing Foundation that received more than £19,000 for their project Hertfordshire’s BIG Hit.

The project aims to reduce the number of reported incidents of anti-social behaviour and crime amongst young people by getting them involved in sport, in this case, boxing.
