An annual charity match is being held at the end of this month to raise money for a cancer care charity.

Football legends from Spurs past will join the event held at Boreham Wood Football Club on Friday July 22 at 7.15pm.

The money raised will be donated to Cherry Lodge Cancer Care, based in Barnet, which helps those who are in need of it.

John Murphy, the event organiser, said: “Many of us have been personally affected by cancer and as we all know it does not discriminate.

“So it was important for us to do something to help and support the wonderful work carried out at Cherry Lodge.

“It is my hope that as many people as possible will turn out in force to support what I hope will be a great family event.

“While I must also thank all my friends, colleagues and customers for their enthusiasm in always supporting this incredibly worthwhile fundraiser.”

The event organisers are hoping to get representatives from Spurs, Arsenal and other football fans to turn up and support them.

Sandy Naughten, the fundraising co-ordinator at Cherry Lodge, said: “When we heard of John and Spurs efforts, it meant a great deal to everyone here.

“We are immensely grateful to John and all the other organisers and contributors for their support.

“We receive virtually no public funding and events such as these are absolutely essential as they effectively ensure we can continue offering vital services to those affected by cancer.”
