A man who works as a tax director has been recognised in the Queen’s birthday honours list for an OBE.

John Whiting, 65, of Abbey View in Radlett, has been working in the Office of Tax Simplification for six years on a part-time role he has held since the office was established.

Until 2013, he was the tax policy director of the Chartered Institute of Taxation; previously he was a tax partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Mr Whiting said: “I am very pleased and grateful to be recognised.

“It is a very nice feeling. It is rather nice as it is something I can show my wife and children.

“My team and I have been recognised for the work we do.”

He is also a non-executive director of HMRC and a board member of Revenue Scotland.

Mr Whiting’s role means he is responsible to Ministers for the Office’s work including the content of its reports.
