The first count for the PCC elections across Hertsmere has been announced.

David Lloyd, the Conservative candidate, received 8,676.

Labour candidate Kerry Pollard got 3,831 of the votes and Mark Hughes, from UKIP, got 2,251.

The Liberal Democrats only received 1,281 of the votes from across Hertsmere.

Mr Pollard said:"The turnout was a bit better than I was expecting.

"It is still disappointing that there is a lack of interest and not many people understand what it is about.

"Labour came second last time and I want to do a little better than that.

"I have done the best I can."

The overall turnout was 29 per cent for the whole county more than double since the last elections in 2012.

For Hertsmere it was 21.8 per cent and for Watford around 36.49 per cent.

In Three Rivers 34.84 per cent of people turned out to cast their vote.

St Albans had the best turnout with 38.99 per cent.

The boroughs that did not have local elections were lowest across the county.

Mr White said: "The trouble is with this sort of election is the public don't really know what is going on compared to when they vote for MPs.

"We really need to sort this out if we are going to carry on voting this way.

"I was never confident. If you are not a nervous candidate you are an arrogant one."
