A building in Borehamwood has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Design Excellence category for this year’s Building Futures Awards.

96 Shenley Road, in Borehamwood, has been recognised for its design which meets the needs of many user groups including a public library, museum and internet café.

The Building Futures Awards take place every two years and this year, the ceremony is sponsored by Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

County Cllr Derrick Ashley, cabinet member for environment, planning and transport, said: “This year there has been a record number of entries to Building Futures Awards, demonstrating that sustainability is a key priority for planning and construction in Hertfordshire.

“The finalists will be showcasing excellent examples of construction projects which benefit the environment and quality of life for residents in the county.

“Nearly every type of building is represented, including community centres, a university, schools, colleges, a museum and leisure centre was well as commercial offices, a research centre, private home and student accommodation.

“The enhancement of Watford town centre public realm is also on the shortlist.”

In 2013, the Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden won the ‘Retrofit for the Future’ award for the £100m refurbishment of a former Rolls Royce factory, home to the production of all eight Harry Potter films.
