A new primary school will be opening its doors at Yavneh College in Borehamwood.

The school will be built on the same location as the Jewish school and is planned to open around September next year.

Currently Yavneh College is the highest performing non-selective state school and offers GCSE and A-level examinations.

Headteacher at Yavneh College Spencer Lewis said: “It’s a very exciting time for both the children and the teachers.

“We have just appointed our new headteacher and the hard work is going to be worthwhile when the first students come.

“The school will be 50 per cent based on faith and the other 50 per cent will be location based.

“It has been needed for a long time in the area. The Jewish community in Borehamwood has and is still growing and we have only had positive responses about the school.”

The primary school at Yavneh College will be a free school meaning the school can decide the curriculum.

According to Mr Lewis, most free schools stick to the national curriculum and they are in the process of deciding the curriculum for the next year.

As the school will have ages from four to 18, the school will be able to fast track some of the more gifted students and provide extra support for the older students who are struggling.

Yavneh College is next door to Monksmead Primary School but Mr Lewis has been working with them and they supported the new school and helped find a new headteacher.

Sue Nyman, chairman of the school governors, said: “We are delighted to announce that after a long and rigorous selection process, we have appointed Caroline Field as the first headteacher of Yavneh Primary School.

“Mrs Field will join us in the summer term of 2016 having spent the last three years as a very successful headteacher at Menorah Foundation School.

“She has an outstanding reputation and will be a huge asset to Yavneh Primary School.”
